Confused and worried

Hi im desperate for some advice.
I am a mother to a nine month old im in a new realtionship,we have been together for eight months now.
I regularly shave off my pubic hair and the last couple of days it has felt a bit tender down there.its like i have a paionful boil or some thing down there.I did cut myself with my razor the other day and it went all red and inflammed,i cut it just by my clitoris (yes i know ouch) i also did cut it a little lwer down of my vaginal lip,it has turned into a painful sore, but i have now noticed a sore on the other vaginal lip.
My boyfriend suffers from coldsores but i have never caught them from him and we never engage in oral sex when he is having an attack.
He does have a coldsore now and im worried that i may have caught the herpes virus from him,im finding it painful to sit down right now as my vaginal lip is sore.
Im not sure if i have just caught an infection from shaving or i have genital herpes? I didnt have any puss its jst a round open sore but two of the sores i know are derfinatly from my razor but today i seem to have two more? Are these just ingrown hairs?

Re: Confused and worried

I dont' wish to alarm you , but you really should go to the doctor ASAP, while the sores are still present and have them swabbed.

If you have had time to read here, you may notice that cold sores are indeed herpes, and unfortunately there is something called viral shedding, which means there does not have to be a sore active in order for the virus to transmit. That is how I got the virus myself. However, don't panic, it may be something else. The most important thing to do is have it swabbed while the doctor has a sore to swab, once it it gone they cant swab it.

I understand the perils of shaving...now I can never tell if a little shave rash is just that or it is a herpes outbreak. Good luck and keep in touch to let us know the outcome. The positive thing is that you found this site, which can help you with information that sometimes the docs dont even have. Take care

Re: Confused and worried

I would see a doctor because, as PP said, it could be either possibility.

Re: Confused and worried

Sweetie, it is normal to feel dirty and werid, and honetly, there are times when I still do! I have had this for just over 2 years now, and though I have accepted I have it, I would prefer not to have ever come in contact with it. But please dont think it is like HIV...it is not life threatening, it is just an aggravation.

And remember if you do have it....chances are very high that you got it genitally from your boyfriend who could have transmitted his cold sore virus to you orally.

It makes me so sad that coldsores on the mouth, lips and face are treated by the public as '' just a coldsore'' and herpes on the genitals is treated with distain...it is the same thing exactly but it chooses to live in another place and that is below the waist.

Herpes wont kill you and think of the good side, you have a wonderful baby and a man in your life. You may wish to start educating your man on genital herpes, and it certainly can be caused from a partners coldsores...that way he wont have any doubts to where you got it from.

Take care, all the best and lets hope your Dr's appointment turns out to be good news.
