HSV1 - Frequency of Outbreaks - Herpes Message Board

Has anyone had HSV1 for a while that could tell me how often they get OBs? My 1st OB was Dec 15th and consisted of 2 sores along with swollen lymph nodes in my groin on the same side of the sores. They lasted about 10 days and I am now feeling the swollen lymph nodes again. I checked and it looks like sores might be reappearing in the same spots as before, slightly smaller, but now there are 3. I wonder if it's just scarring from the 1st OB? I thought that HSV1 did not bring on as many OBs as type 2 - this one (if it is one) is occurring a few weeks after the primary and there are 3 sores instead of 2?? I thought the first was supposed to be the worst...??

I've had HSV 1 since September, my lymph nodes have been swollen the whole time, I had one bad O/B with a sore that lasted for weeks, following this the 'sore' has appeared 3 more times, but it's the size of a papercut and disappears after 24 hours. I would recommend getting your immune system evaluated, it turns out mine is pretty crummy which is why, although I don't have bad sores, I have had other symptoms constantly for 3 months. I've seen a specialist a few times who told me for some people it really can be relentless for a few months when you get it regardless of the type, so now I'm on the slow road to repairing the damage from 14 years on the pill and an unhealthy diet. When I started researching Herpes, this phrase 'smart living' kept popping up, and unfortunately it seems to be true!

The sad thing is some doctors know less about herpes than some of us do. We get to learn from experience and I think that unless a doctor has it, they aren't very well informed. It appears that your Doctor, BlueUK actually knows about herpes. I've read that some doctors are telling patients that it must not be herpes because herpes just doesn't last that long...BS I say!!!!! Wouldn't it be wonderful if when we went to a doctor and paid them hundreds of dollars to diagnose us, that they would actually know what they are talking about...that will be the day!

Thanks, BlueUK. I still haven't seen any sores yet, which is good, but the lymph node is swollen - not as bad as the 1st OB, though. I've been seeing a holistic gynecologist who was treating me for HPV too (I still cannot believe I have 2 STDs... it's going to take a while to come to terms with that...) Anyway, she said the same thing about treating both - build up your immune system and that will help to keep the viruses under control, so that's what I've been doing for the past 3 months - taking high doses of vitamins every day that she recommended and trying to eat healthier. I'm hoping that's all it will take. So far so good, I guess.

One other question - do you think that if the lymph node is swollen, even if no sore is present, would that be a cause of asymptomatic shedding?
