| Re: what can I expect
Hi 4EverScared,
I totally understand how you didn't want to go to your regular gyno; I didn't want to either, but I had to since the clinic in my area refused me antivirals because I didn't have actual blisters (Long story). Anyway, I think it's probably for the best that your regular gyno knows because it is ALWAYS best that your doc knows everything little bit about your medical history. Although herpes has not been implicated in cancer or anything like that, it still affects the immune system and the nervous system, and it is a part of your life. Also, herpes (or having any STD for that matter) can put you at an increased risk for HIV. I am NOT trying to scare you and I apologize if I'm coming off that way, I'm just trying to make the point that it is good to be open with your doctor. I recently went to see a new doctor for an allergy med presciption, and I don't have a Primary Care Physician, so I went to the ONLY doctor that accepts my insurance in my area. This doctor was a JOKE. He cared NOTHING about my medical history even when I offered the information and just asked me what prescription I needed written. So I guess my point is to see a GOOD doctor that you trust and that cares if you are financially able to. :-) I'm totally rambling on, but I just want to wish you the best of luck at your appointment. The best thing to do is educate yourself all that you can (which it seems like you are) and go from there. I was really getting down on myself last week about the whole herpes thing, but I'm starting to look up again, because I've just realized that there are SO many people out there that are suffering more than I am. That's not to say that herpes isn't a stressful and hard to deal with issue, but just that I have to keep things in perspective. I hope that you can do the same, and I hope that you will feel free to come to these boards whenever you need support.
Take care,
Katalina
