Just diagnosed w/ genital herpes; Very scared - Herpes Message Board

Hey,
I'm new to the web site. I found out yesturday that I have genital herpes. I'm pretty scared about the whole thing. My DR. prescribed me this cream to control the o/b. Is there anything more I can do to control my o/b, or to help the o/b go away. Thanks.

Did the doctor only give you cream? If this is your intial OB, I would certainly ask for an RX for Valtrex or something to attack it as quickly as possible.

There are many, many suggestions here on how to shorten it, but the problem is different things work for different bodies, so read up! For me it was Vitamin C, garlic, and Lysine. Good luck and I hope you find something that works for you.

The first outbreak is usually the worst one for majority of people as it's something you have not experienced before, it seems to take for ever and the symptoms seem never ending.

I refused to take medication as i wanted my body to adjust to this virus ASAP. Instead i used topical things like tea tree oil which sooths the stinging/burning feeling or garlic oil and others love aloe vera gel as well as hydrogen peroxide.

If it's so bad then a prescription for something might be advisable in your case, atleast for this early stage.

Hi Budddy,
It can definitely be a lot to take in at first. As if dealing with the physical effects aren't enough, the wheels start turning mentally and you start thinking of the possible implications and it just gets overwhelming. Just know that it gets easier and your body will learn to fight it better with time.
This site is an awesome source of support and information. (You've probably already read many of the threads!).
As far as controlling OBs, I've had great success with Lysine. I saw the best results when I started to take 1gram (1000mg) every morning on an empty stomach. I also keep some handy in case I eat something high in arganine (chocolate, peanuts...) Other than that, clean living is your best defense, but don't go overboard and forget to enjoy yourself. You'll figure out what your triggers are.

Thanks for the positive advice. I talked to my doctor again the next day and i got confused on what i was dianosed with. she said it was genital warts. She explained to me that herpes and warts are different. I got the cream that she prescribed to me. I asked her about all the vitamins I read about on the threads. She said that i am more than welcome to try those things, but the cream is the best solution.
