| Re: girlfriend gets herpes
I read that it is possible to give oral herpes to someone in the genital area or basically turn HSV1 into HSV2. So if you develop chapped lips, cold sores etc on your lips / mouth, you shouldn't be giving oral sex as the recipient is at high risk of getting HSV 2. If you trust her then chances are she has not been messing around with anyone. The best thing for you guys is to talk about the disease and learn as much as possible about it. It's not the end of the world. I've had HSV2 for about 3 years and my wife has not developed any cold sores or shown any symptoms of having either HSV1 or 2. Whenever I feel an outbreak coming we take a break from sex for about 10 days and then I'll use a condom for another 7 days or until the scabs go away. After the scabs are gone she can perform oral and nothing has happened.
