So the woman I just started dating told me she has herpes. I really like her so I'm willing to deal with it but it makes me pretty nervous. She hasnt had an outbreak in years but Im also aware of the viral shedding thing. We've had sex a few times and I always use condoms, but Im also aware that the condom obviously doesnt cover everything that can be exposed. I'm going to ask her to take Valtrex. Anything else I can do to protect myself? If you're with someone with herpes long enough, are you more than likely going to get it even with precautions?

Taking prescription medication does not make it go away.
It does not stop the shedding process. Please don’t ask her to take it. Why didn’t you ask her to start taking it before you did the deed a few times as you stated you did? If I was her I wouldn’t begin a regimen of prescription medication just so you felt better. If she does start taking it its still not going to whittle down your chances of ever contracting the virus.

And ya know, if you do end up with it its not the end of the world. Its not as if anything important is going to fall off.

I have read that out of all the women diagnosed with herpes only about 50% shed asymptomaticaly, the chance that herpes could be passed to you asymptomaticaly are the same as the chance of a condom failing to protect from pregnancy, which is a 2% chance, hope this puts your mind at rest

I just found out that my boyfriend has herpes after been sexually active for three months now. Why he waited that long is me question and what should i do now. I know that with good communication herpes in a relationship should not be that difficult, yes there is a risk, but isnt life full of them anyways. I'm in love with him however i dont know how I feel about been told after intercourse.
