nerve pain? - Herpes Message Board

I contracted or had shingles at 36. Since then I've felt an annoying persistant pain in my right should to neck area. However, the pain was not significant enough to stop me in my tracks. Now at 42, it has turned into a shooting, sharp pain. I don't know what to do. My mother had Parkinson's at 52, could this be connected to that or just be shingles reoccurring?

Shingles generally doesn't recurr, however, there is the odd exception. (as with anything to do with herpes!!) I've also read the the nerve paid generally persists for months, not years - but again there are always exceptions.

Before I pursue the Parkinson's route, I would rule out the possibility of shingles recurring. It's not so unheard of that you can write off the possibility - and frankly, I'd prefer shingles to recurr than to have Parkinson's.
(I don't know much about Parkinson's, but I don't believe it's painful per se, and doesn't it affect the whole body??)

I'd see a doctor.
