Herpes Titer - Herpes Message Board

What does it mean if I was told that my Herpes titer was low and indicates prior infection. Does that mean that I have or had some form of herpes before???

I would get a copy of your test results. Without knowing the numbers, it's really hard to say what they mean. Once you get the numbers tho', there are a few people on this site who are very good at explaining test results.

By the way - herpes is a permanent virus in your system. There is no "had the virus", once you have it it's a gift for life. If your bloodwork does indicate that you have herpes, there is no way to tell when you acquired the virus , so the terminology "prior infection" is kind of misleading. It simply means that you've had the virus for over 3 - 4 months, as that's how long it takes for a blood test to come back positive.

My the numbers could you tell what type you have ? Or is there more testing involved?

The numbers will tell you if you are positive or not. If the doctor ran the right kind of test, it will tell you if you are positive for Type 1, type 2, or both

Can you have Herpes with no symptoms?
