If you are having what you think might be a herpes outbreak you would want to get a swab test (preferablly) in the first 24 hours period, Before the virus retreats. Testing via blood test you need to have antibodies present to show a postive result. After contracting the virus antibodies usually take a few months to build up enough to be present in the blood work.
