Re: 1.10 positve does this mean i have herpes

I've seen all kinds of test results on this board, but never one like this!! A test result doesn't usually come back negative AND positive!!

You are right to be confused, these results are pretty vague. Generally speaking, a Type Specific test that shows over 0.9 for HSV1 is positive, and over 0.5 (people, help me out if that's the wrong number - I think it's corrct!!) is positive for HSV2.

But they haven't even indicated what they tested you for - HSV1 or HSV2. I'm wondering if they did a combined test, or an IgM test - both of which don't really tell you much and are essentially worthless - but might return results like this. This is my suspicion.

You need to get a copy of your test results. Once you have it, post it up here. exactly as shown. There are people on this site who are really good at interpreting test results.

Re: 1.10 positve does this mean i have herpes

ok so it was blood work so i guess it tests both.
my results say
<0.90 negative no hsv-1 or hsv-2 igg antibody detected
0.90 - 1.10 equivocal
> 1.10 positive - hsv-1 or hsv-2 igg anitibody detected

Re: 1.10 positve does this mean i have herpes

I don't think what you have posted is actually YOUR results. I think you have posted the parameters for interpreting the results of a test. For instance...

<0.90 negative no hsv-1 or hsv-2 igg antibody detected
This means that if your test results come back lower than 0.9, you are negative for HSV

0.90 - 1.10 equivocal
This means that if your numbers are between 0.9 and 1.1, the results are borderline, and you should be re-tested to confirm the results.

> 1.10 positive - hsv-1 or hsv-2 igg anitibody detected
This means that if your numbers are over 1.1, you test positive for HSV.

I'm not sure I agree with the numbers being used here - as I said before, usually if you test higher than 0.9 for HSV1 it's considered positive. And 0.5 for HSV2. But that part aside, what you have posted is still only the interpretation of results - you still need to find out what your actual number was.
