Post Genital HSV-1 and Question to All

Hello everyone,

I have just been recently diagnosed with genital hsv-1 and I am having a really hard time with it. For those of you who have this, espcially any women, how often do you have outbreaks? I have read the statistics, but I'd rather hear it from you guys. I just really need help putting it into perspective I guess. Thank you very much.

Hi poindxtr,

The first year is typically the hardest, both physically and emotionally, because you're unprepared to deal/cope with it. It's a whole new learning curve for you body and your emotions.

I personally tend to get about 3-6 OBs per year, but my lifestyle, stress level, health status, hormone levels and supplement intake can make a difference. If I'm run down or highly stressed or sick, I'm much more prone to getting an OB.

I've also found that the times when I've taken a supplement called SAMe, I'll break out like clockwork. It's an alternative supplement used for arthritis and depression and it works very well for the latter for me, but at a steep price. I've never heard of anyone else who has that reaction with it.

It's fairly common for women to get an OB just before or during their period. I've never heard an explanation as to why this is, although I know that my system tends to feel weak around that time. If I'm fighting a flu, I'll often come down with it at that time. Likewise with an OB, so maybe the immune system does a hiccup or something. *shrug*

I hope that helps, even a bit.

hi there!
I have been lucky I think. I also have type 1 gentially- got it last feb, with a big terrible primary breakout. First few months were very bad- managed to spread it (during the primary) to one of my eyes (though unconfirmed, only suspected, by the eye primary breakout, I have had NOTHING since then! I dr), and my lips. But, with the exception of one more small break out genitally a couple months after the felt wierd done there for a while, probably up til mid summer, but since then I feel great! (knock on wood too!). So I am very very thankful for this. I guess type 1 generally reaccures less often genitally, but be careful not to spread it anywhere (usually the risk of this is higher during the first couple months before you have immunity) I take no supplements, no medicine, just try to eat healthy and exercise. Good luck!

Cool

Thank you all for responding. I finished my Zoviraz last week and felt really good for a few days, normal actually. However yesterday I noticed another blister/sore on the inside of my groin, the same place I keep getting it. This is now the third time since my primary in OCt. Lucklily, I have not had a recurrence like the first. The open ulcers have not come back, thankfully, just these blisters. And to those of you who read my posts on yeast infections and OB's, I was given Diflucan and within 2-3 days I was up to par. But now this darn blister again! Maybe I should call to be put on suppressive therapy. I know that my OB's thus far would probably be described as mild, expect for the primary, but it is so terribly uncomfortable and sore to sit and walk etc. Thanks again for responding, and if you think of anything else let me know, because I am still so new to this all.

Re: Genital HSV-1 and Question to All

i was diagnosed with hsv-1 almost three months ago, which wasn't good at all and came as a massive shock- esp b/c i had only had sex with the one person and at the time knew very little about type 1 genitally.

I haven't had a real OB since, but have noticed recently funny tears/creases in the skin. They don't look anything like my original outbreak- which looked more like ulcers.

I went to the doc, who said it wasn't an OB, but didnt take a swab.. I'm not completely convinced, as the area feels a little bit itchy at times

i am wondering if anyone has any suggestions? could this be an OB and if i was to have sex with someone at the moment, would I be more contagious than at other times?
