Hi, you all probably know my story already. I had been wondering how it was possible that I contracted HSV type I genitally and on my nipples, but not orally. I mean, as much as my b/f's mouth was in those places...hehe, I'm blushing...I kiss him ten times more. Well, anyway, I don't really remember anything coming up on my lips during my primary ob which was two months ago, but about a month ago, my lips got real chapped feeling, and there appeared to be small sores on them. One on the top lip, and three on the bottom, but they looked like they could have been cracks from being so chapped, and they they went away in a few days, and I wrote it off to just chapped lips. Well, just a few days ago, I woke up with the same thing...and when I examined them, the small sores were in the exact same place as last time. They are not on the edge of my lips though like I hear cold sores are supposed to be, but more right on my lips. These lasted only a few days also. Might this be oral symptoms, or does oral symptoms always appear on the edge of the lip line? Thanks for any info

Lesions could appear anywhere. Orally they often appear at the edge of the lip, just like genitally they typically appear at certain locations, but there's nothing to say they won't or can't appear elsewhere or with other appearances. If it was me, I'd assume it was herpes, meaning you should avoid kissing and other contact with your mouth area when that's happening. If you want to be sure, next time they come up, get your doc to do a swab within the first 24-48 hours and see what the result is.
