If I understand your question, it relates back to what I wrote to your other questions. Herpes can migrate to new locations within the same area of skin connected by the same nerve system. In the case of genital herpes, symptoms could come up anywhere around the area covered by "boxer shorts." That includes the genitals, anal area, buttocks, back of the leg, and so on. That whole area is served by the sacral nerve ganglion, and since the virus can travel anywhere that nerve "sub-system" goes, it can erupt into an OB anywhere in the skin "dermatome" (area) served by the same nerve. This can happen without any further skin-to-skin contact with the virus (which is how it's contracted to begin with).

It's possible to have more than one recurring OB site within the same dermatome too, so even though your friend's friend got OBs on the backs of his legs, he might still have been shedding the virus from the genital area too (for instance), which could be how your friend got it. I hope that makes sense.

Again, I'd suggest you do some reading about it on websites or in that book I mentioned. I'm not a health professional and there might be better ways to explain it if I'm just confusing you.

And if I understand your last question: Can you deliberately change the outbreak location? Not that I'm aware of, in the sense that it now manifests "here" and not over "there." If you worked at it you could give yourself a new OB location, but that doesn't mean you can't still have an OB in the old location or that you couldn't shed the virus asymptomatically from there. So all you'd do is give yourself another OB site.
