Hey TS,
Sounds encouraging!

However, I also appreciate your caution about taking your doc's word for it too, since his perception about the variety of how the symptoms can appear doesn't seem to match the verbal descriptions that are around. It can be hard to match up verbal descriptions with in-person, visual experience the he might have had. However I think both your caution and your hopefulness are well taken.
I have a question -- why haven't you already directed your gf to check out sites like herpes.org?? I would think she'd want to know more about an STD you might have, esp. when it has affected your relationship in such a dramatic way. Are you trying to protect her for some reason? Seems to me from what you've said that she is already worried and has the right to know everything you know about it. It occurs to me that it would be important for her to be as empowered in this situation as possible, which includes having complete information about possibilities, not just actualities. Anyway, 2 more cents worth from me.
