I am ACTIVE DUTY, U.S. Military. Digging through my medical record today after an appointment, I found a recent lab report from a blood test I requested. I am not happy. My Doc has NOT mentioned anything to me, and I HAVE seen him since the lab results came back.

PLEASE PLEASE tell me what this means:

QUEST DIAGNOSTICS

HSV 1 IGG . . . . <.90
HSV 2 IGG . . . . >5.00 H

Result Comment:
<.90 Negative - No HSV1 or HSV2 IGG antibody detected

0.90-1.10 Equivocal

>1.10 POSITIVE- HSV1 or HSV2 IGG antibody detected

This assay is type specific and will differentiate between HSV1 and HSV2 infections. A single positive result only indicates previous immunologic exposure.

The results show you're negative for HSV1 and positive for HSV2.
Because your HSV2 value is greater than 5.00, the likelihood of a false positive is close to zero. And this is not a recent infection, meaning you've probable had this for years.

And this is a test you specifically asked for? I've heard that a herpes test is not routinely requested for military personnel.

Unfortunately, the doctor may have missed it in your file.

So I am definitly positive?

How can u tell I've had it for years??

I had a long relationship with a girl the has HSV, and that relationship ended 6 years ago.

I was exposed to HSV back in December, different girl.

I've never had any signs/symptoms. What should I do? Besides tear my Doctor apart?
