Hi I havent had an outbreak in 7 yrs, and only had one. Recently i felt a little something coming on. I got meds for it. But my question is. I have been with my bf for 2 yrs now, never used condoms. Never had any problems. Since its been two yrs is it safe to say he most likely has it too? Can two people pass the virus back and forth and keep re-infecting? We plan on being together forever now, and are monogamous! thanks

No, it is not safe to say your bofriend has it. The only way to know is if he gets blood test. Since your infection is not very active, it is very possible you are rarely contagious and he may not have it. Some people go years without infecting their partners. Then again he may be infected but not have symptoms.

Your other question: you cannot reinfect eachother. You can only get infected once.

i never had a blood test. dr just looked at me. i also have hpv =( i just wanna keep my immune system up. Do you know anything about Lysine? Is that safe to take everyday along with my other vitamins? what about with aclcyovoir(spelling) herpes meds. Ive had an annoying yeast and bv infection for almsot two weeks now. although havent had sex since nov and have been with my bf two yrs. whats going on??? thanks for your reply. So doesnt matter if we use protection if we both have it?

I meant a blood test was necessary if there are not observable signs. If you haven't had an outbreak in 7 years, I'd think your immune system is fine. In your case, I'd only take herpes meds on an as needed basis. I don't know what's going on with your boyfriend if you haven't had sex since November but I'd reconsider if I want to be with him forever. And yes, if you both have it, you don't have to worry about infecting each other. It can be a relief to not worry about protection.
