distinquishing herpes from warts - Herpes Message Board

I've been struggling with this latest outbreak, which I think is about over. But there are other things going on, especially in the anal area.

I went to the doc the other day who stated that she did not see any genital warts but I am so worried that they are there and just can't be seen.

Is there a true way to tell the difference between H & W....is there a test.

I was tested for a yeast infection and waiting for the results...I know I have a lot of inflammation all around the area (vulva). I guess when one thing starts in that area it just creates other problems.

Please write...anyone.

Maybe you've already mentioned about this, but is there some particular reason why you think you have genital warts? Or are you just feeling a bit paranoid about all STDs right now? That's a natural reaction that I see a lot from people on this board.

I don't have a lot of knowledge about HPV but if you do an internet search about it, you'll find some info about it. It can be tricky to diagnose without clear symptoms and there are some tricks doctors can use to detect symptoms (like vinegar making wart sites more visible) but I don't think there are any foolproof ways to diagnose warts without clear symptoms. I might be wrong about that but I think it's kind of tricky and ambiguous unless there are clear symptoms. Please don't just take my word for it though.

And let us know what you find out.

some info about HPV testing. Their is a vinegar test that the Dr. can give you. If you are infected with warts then that area turns white in reaction to the vinegar. My Dr. said that this is a "tricky" test because it can give false + and -'s... which it did for me.
Warts can be difficult to test for, in that there are different strands. Some of the strands don't show up as warts persay, but can cause cervical cancer. Other strands are easily diagnosed by the small, flat, pinkish "bumps" that appear alone or in clusters. Sounds pretty ambigous right? It is, that is why it helps to have a Dr. talk you through it. (at least for me it did) Good luck and please let us know how you are doing.
