You need to get a blood test to determine what type you have. Herpes can manifest in all kinds of different ways and it doesn't matter what type it is.
If you come up positive for type 2, then it's type 2. If you come up positive for only type 1, then it's type 1.
As for HSV2 orally, yes it is rare but there's no way to know how mild or severe it will be and if you'll get recurrences.
I have had oral HSV1 since I was a small child. I rarely got cold sores and only one mild sore in the corner of my mouth. I haven't had one in 7 years now.
I got genital HSV1 in December 2002 from my boyfriend performing oral sex on me when he had a cold sore (we didn't know it could be transmitted that way)
I had a very severe primary OB, two somewhat mild OBs and just got over a severe OB 1.5 weeks ago.
Basically, there is no rhyme or reason with this virus. Even the same type can affect different areas of the body differently.
