Confused on your question. How can you tell if you have herpes? Or how can you tell if she has herpes?
If you have no obvious signs (sores, bumps, jock itch like rash) you need to get a 'type specific IgG blood test' from your doctor.
Did she say what type of herpes she had? There is oral (cold sores) and genital (genital sores).
Many people have it but do not have obvious symptoms.
