I was tested for genital herpes after I got a suspicious sore...

They ran blood work and NOTHING showed up. The only thing that confirmed that I did in fact have herpes was the culture they did on my sore. Why did this not show up in my blood? Could it be that I had contracted it recently?

Re: I was tested for genital herpes after I got a suspicious sore...

If your blood test is negative and your swab culture is positive it GENERALLY indicates that this is a recent infection. It takes anywhere from 3-4 months once infected for enough antibodies to be produced to show up in the blood. Note this is an average some people take more or less time. So it is possible that you got this recently and are showing symptoms. Symptoms can appear anywhere from 2 - 21 days (again GENERALLY) from infection date.
Have you had a new partner recently? And do you know which type the culture came back as?

Re: I was tested for genital herpes after I got a suspicious sore...

Yes, two weeks after I had sex with my new boyfriend I had an outbreak. I hadn't had sex with anyone in a very long time. The weird part about all of this is that he has never had an outbreak and told me that he had been to the doctor and was clean. I suppose it could be possible that when he went to the doctor he had just been infected like me. It has been very stressful, I've been doing alot of research though and I have been taking l-lysine, vitamin C, and Vitamin B. I just got my second outbreak and got valtrex from my Dr. Do you know why some people show symptoms and others don't?

This is my opinion, Most guys lie and don't admit to having it and when it is too late, then they claim that the girl gave it to them. That is just the facts. Girls are more caring and most men plead the 5th. Now with that said, Most people have the first couple of outbreaks and then clear up after a year and forget until maybe they have a few and they aren't that painful.

Re: I was tested for genital herpes after I got a suspicious sore...

Did he show you his test results? Make sure he got the right test. (igg not igm). If he truly got tested and is negative then he should be happy to show you. But yes, if he was negative he could have just recently gotten it himself.

Everyone is different with this stupid virus. It can remain dormant for awhile and the rear its ugly head. Stress, exposure to sunlight, trauma, surgery and lots of other things can cause flare ups. Best advice is to take care of yourself. Eat right, get sleep, excercise. All that stuff that doctors tell us to do that we know is right, but hate to do.
