Need Info on Valtrex - Herpes Message Board

My doctor gave me Valtrex. I don't know much about it. my main question is "Does Valtrex supress shedding as well as outbreaks?" Doctor told me that yes, one can contract herpes during shedding but, much more likely to during an outbreak. Anyone with experience or thoughts on this? Thanks

Yes it supresses shedding and outbreaks, but use a condom cause you can still pass it to your partner

Doctor also said that once using Valtrex a condom isn't really necessary,, especially with married couples. I was married and for 22 yrs my husband never contracted my herpes. We never used a condom. So the doc's word seems feasable.

If I remember correctly, even the commercial for Valtrex says you can still spread the virus while using the product. Anyone else remember it this way? Obviously it decreases the odds dramatically but I think it's still a possibility.
