herpes transferral - Herpes Message Board

My fiance and I have herpes and I was wondering how many different ways it can be transfered to another person. I have heard it can be transfered via toilet seat but every online site i have been to has only stated skin to skin contact. My roommate is quite unnerved with the whole situation and I want to put his mind to rest that I will not be transfering it to him in any way. My fiance's family seem to think they are experts on disease and I was told that they looked it up online and it can be transfered on anything that is touched. Personally that is telling me they are overeducated idiots but that is just my personal opinion due to getting tired of hearing how they know everything. How acurate are they? I mean should I really feel as offended as I do when her mother goes behind me and lysols everything I touch and makes me feel that I can't even play with my future nephews and nieces without wearing a chemical suit?

You are right they are idiots. It's labeled a sexually transmitted virus for a reason.

The virus does not live long (seconds) on surfaces and needs friction/grinding/sexual activity to pass through the skin.

Obviously if you had a big nasty sore on your thigh and touched it and then rubbed it into a cut or open wound or eyes of another person, then you might transfer it. But who the hell would do that???? Ugh.

Tell your future mother in law to chill out. She has a better chance of getting hit by lightning then getting herpes from something you touched.
Normal hygiene warm water and soap kills the virus on surfaces, clothes etc.

Good luck ... I think you are going to need it with those folks. ;-)
