Help..

Hi. I found out 2 weeks ago that my partner of 3 years contracted herpes from a one night stand before he met me. He has recently had a flare up and we have not had sex or kissed while this flare up was present as i presume it was in the genital area and he said he felt like he was getting a cold sore (a cold sore never appearered but we still didnt kiss). He apparently contacted his doctor and was told to take a sample of his urine to them to be tested which he say's he did. A week later and his doctor has apparently been in touch and he is all clear! He has had no medication or anything. Can a herpes flare up clear without medication? Can they test for a herpes flare up from urine? Whenever i tried to talk to him about it,he got very moody and we argued, partly because i was hurt i had only just found out after 3 years that he had herpes in the first place and i also put it down to him being embarrased about it. Thank you for your help.

I have not heard of being tested through Urine, nor that the OB would disappear that quickly especially without any medication I am not a healthcare professional but I just have never heard of that.

How does he know that he has HSV also is it type 1 or 2 or both? I would suggest that both of you get tested ..the Igg type specific blood test will let you both know where you stand as far as being infected also if its HSV 1 or 2.

Hiya, thanks for your reply. He was tested when he first knew there was something wrong which was over 3 years ago before we got together. He said we couldn't have sex or kiss and that lasted for 13 days so from that i'd say he had type 1 and 2. I didnt think you could be tested from urine, ive always thought it was a blood test and i didnt think that a herpes flare up would clear up on its own without proper medication.

Re: Help..

I agree with angeleyesinnj81 you can not test herpes through urine. It is either by a sample from the sores or a specific blood test . I also think you should get tested as well. A herpes flare up can go away without medication, but it usually takes a very long time (to my knowledge).
