I have been taking Valtrex every day for one year and have gratefully been symptom free. I recently had my first heartbreaking symptom. Is there really anyway to rid your body of this virus, and how long is the body contagious after an outbreak?

Hi

I am very sorry to say there is NO CURE for Herpes to date, just the surpressive drugs. I am very sorry you have had your first symptom. It is very difficult to say as far as the actual Ob is concerned because each person is different.. I would say from my experience 3-5 days, and then another 7 days from the time the bump , blister or cut goes away or the symptoms go away, see everyone doesn;t have the same symptoms, but everyone goes through the shedding period and that starts after and that is more catagious then the actual OB, because most people don;t even know when it is happening, so to be safe, I would say 10 says tops, especially since this is your first OB.
I would still continue on my meds during the time. have you been overly stressed lately, STRESS is a major factor in OB's, so maybe that is what triggered this one..

FYI You can still pass the virus when no symptoms are present, so always inform all partners and future partners of your status so they know the risk....
