Cold sores are a form of herpes...stress will tend to bring on an outbreak and herpes can be transmitted even when there are no signs or symptoms present. If you have never had them before if it is within the first 24-48 hours you can get it cultured if not then you can ask for an IgG herpes type specific blood test... the only thing is it can take up to 3-4 months for the antibodies to build up in your system to be detected.
