Do I date others with hsv 1 or 2 ?

I'm at a stand still with dating. My present bf gave me hsv-1 which appeared on my genitals. Now what ? I have no desire to start another relationship and have to have "the talk". I know there are H dating sites and that would seem easier but my questions is : Do I need be concerned about getting hsv-2 ? I've already experienced the nasty first outbreak, now if I date someone with the other strain of the virus am I risking the chance of starting from scratch again with the nasty outbreak. Or, am I somewhat immune since I already have hsv-1.

well research says that you are "somewhat" immune, but there is always the chance that you could contract the other strain (hsv2). but i think the odds are low. thoughts anyone?

Re: Do I date others with hsv 1 or 2 ?

I, personally, think that going on a herpes dating website is making yourself your disease, instead of herpes only being what you have. I don't think I would ever date somebody simply because they have the same problem as me. I don't know. I guess, I'd just think about the disease a lot more frequently than I already do.

I don't believe you necessarily have to start dating somebody and immediately tell them about your condition (unless, of course, you plan on sleeping with them right away... then you definitely SHOULD). Give any ole' Joe the chance to get to know you, then inform him once things get to that point.

There's no reason why you need to limit your options because of a disease!

Dear Flyinbelowradar...I read that you genitally contracted the type 1 version of the virus from your boyfriend via oral sex. I was wondering if he had any sores on his mouth when this happened or did it happen when he was shedding asymptomatically? Do you know how long it took for you to have an outbreak from the time that you were exposed? You say that he is your "present" boyfriend. Do you want to break up with him because of this situation or because of other reasons?

Re: Do I date others with hsv 1 or 2 ?

To answer your questions: No, I did not notice any sore on his mouth, one day I just woke up and BAMM there were all these horrible sores down there. My doctor said that it had to be a recent infection probably took place 10 days prior. I was only with him and he had no symptoms that I could see. That's what freaks me out. I don't want to pass this to someone else. Obviously you obstain during an outbreak, but I believe I got it from someone with no signs. Yes, I have to confess ..... I'm staying with him because it's just easier than having to start over with someone new and have this whole ugly thing surface again. I have a conscience and I would never leave a partner uninformed like it was done to me.
