Can you get herpes through a blood tranfusion?

The reason I ask is that the only other guy I was with besides my lover of 15 years does not have herpes and I did have a blood transfusion a short time before my first herpes outbreak.

According to the Red Cross, no. Although antibodies are in the bloodstream, the actual virus lives in the nerves, not the blood.

How does your lover know he doesn't have herpes? Most people who have it don't get symptoms (or not that they recognise as herpes). The best way to find out is to do a blood test that checks for both types of HSV (1 and 2).

Yes, I believe so. But check with your local blood agency to be sure, as different agencies might have a different policy about it. But from what I've read online from reputable resources, it cannot be transmitted via a blood transfusion. I think anonymous questions to the blood agency can be asked by phone if you'd prefer that. Just do a call-display-block to be sure of anonymity.
