I was wondering what the symptoms of having an internal outbreak would be? My boyfriend recently contracted herpes, despite our carefulness. I suppose I've been slightly paranoid that I could be having outbreaks inside, without knowing?
I've only had the one outbreak, being the primary one. I don't know if I would know what it would feel like coming on.
Has anyone had internal outbreaks, and been able to feel them coming on?
By internal I assume you mean in your internal organs or something? Or do you mean inside the vagina or rectum? I've never heard of anyone talk about getting OBs actually *inside* the body (the usual orifaces counting as external).
However, if you're in your first year or so after initial infection, you're typically at your highest rate of viral shedding, both symptomatic and asymptomatic. Remember that you can shed the virus even between OBs and even without the non-OB symptoms (tingling, inflamed lymph glands, etc.) That sounds more likely than "internal" outbreaks.
I was referring, more or less, to inside the vaginal canal. Which is very possible, correct?
Forgive me if I'm not getting it. As soon as I was diagnosed I did sooo much reading about it, now trying to recall it all, I end up doubting myself.
Has this ever happened to you? An internal vaginal OB without outer symptoms?
A month or so ago, I thought that I was coming down with a bladder infection (which I've never had before), and I tried all the at home remedies (cranberry juice, etc..), and the symptoms subsided and the bladder infection never seemed to 'stick'? Looking back, I wonder if the discomfort I was feeling could have been an outbreak.
Well, it could be. But at the same time, since he has it now it doesn't really matter. You can't reinfect him, once he's got it he's got it, so the good news is you don't have to worry about asymptomatic shedding or internal undiagnosed outbreaks any more as long as you stay monogamous!

Yes. I've never had an OB inside my vagina (that I know of) but I've seen many posts here from women who have. And in my own experience, it's rare to get simultaneous OBs in different places. Actually, it just happened to me a couple of weeks ago and I was really surprised. Although neither of them was "inside."

Don't feel bad. <IMG SRC="http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/smile.gif"> It's complex and there's a lot to learn. There's very little that's straightforward and simple about herpes. I go back to information websites to double check my accuracy and understanding of it all the time. Do you have a book called "The Truth About Herpes" by Dr. Stephen Sacks? It's a great book to refer back to sometimes.

Possible, but it might also have just been the beginnings of a bladder infection brought on by stress and who-knows-what. I don't think I've ever had a bladder infection (or symptoms of it) related to an OB.
I sometimes get symptoms of a bladder infection starting, when I take very high doses of ibuprophen for a few days. Have you been taking any drugs, herbs or foods recently that was more than you usually take at a stretch or that was new to your system? Just a thought.
I just wanted to say that I've been recently diagnosed with herpes I and II and I am having such a hard time dealing with this. I don't even like to kiss my daughter anymore without feeling so horrible! What are the precautions to take so that I don't contract this to my children? Do I use my own soap in the shower? Am I not supposed to share food or the same glass? Do I wipe the toilet seat each time I use it with a disinfectant? I haven't had a break out yet. I know that my mouth has been feeling funny lately. My lips have been tingling, but no significant soars. Two months ago, I was in the sun and I broke out on my chest, shoulders, and stomach with littles pimples. It itches like crazy. I thought I may have had sun poison, but I still break out if I sweat or when I am stressed. Should I let my dermatologist know that I have herpes? I itch all over, my arms, back, etc.. I also have been getting swollen glands frequently and shooting pains in my groin/pelvic area. I need to know what I am going to be looking forward to! Can someone please let me know. I am freaking out, mentally.
