This depends if it was a recent infection then yes...but normally if you have been in a relationship for more then 4 months the one that tests positive is normally the one that had it coming into it. If less then yes there is a possibility since it can take up to 4 months for it to show in the blood test.

Re: can my partner give me hsv and not show positive himself

Why I ask is because my husband of 9 years and the only partner I have had in 11 years has been having unprotected oral sex with prostitutes. When I found this out we both went and got tested for std's. I showed positive for HSV 2 and he showed negative. I have never had an outbreak or any other symptom. I have also had several children through IVF'S and thought maybe through the years and all the exams which were weekly than daily for several years something would have come up! I know it could be possible to be carrying this for years. But HOOKERS without protection! Just makes sense that he may have passed something to me!

I agree it makes sense that he probably passed it on to you but not always the case. I have not been pregnant I wonder if they test for herpes when your pregnant if they do then you can know 100% that it is him.
If his blood test came back negative though it may be a recent infection as it can take up to 4 months to show up. Do you know which test was done? The IgM is worthless and should not be used.. make sure it was the IgG.

People can have herpes for years and never show signs or symptoms but since I know some background I would think it was from him. Have him get tested again after the 4 month mark from his last encounter.

Re: can my partner give me hsv and not show positive himself

Thank you so much for your response! I did speak to his doctor and he told me he did show negative for all std's including HSV 2. Which I did tell him I showed positive. He told me he did not think it was likely since he only did it one time! My husband obviously lied! I told the doctor I found out this has been a weekly sometimes twice a week for over a year! So, I just hope he checked him properly for everything. It has only been a couple weeks so I am not pressing to much for any information until I can get more stable with dealing with all this.Any suggestions on how I should approach him or his doctor? I did not tell him yet I have showed positive. My doctor told me to just say nothing!

Re: can my partner give me hsv and not show positive himself

I was thinking if there was anyway to have him retested maybe 4 months from when you found out you were positive so this way he should test positive. If he doesn't know your positive maybe tell him the doctor asked that you both be retested in a few months to be sure the results are accurate or maybe don't say anything until around the time you need for him to be retested..its a tough call.

I am so sorry you have to deal with this mess.
