How contagious is herpes in between outbreaks? Can we ever be safe?
My question is how contagious is herpes in between outbreaks? I have oral HSV1 and can sometimes go for months or years without outbreaks. Can you ever kiss your children or give your partner oral sex when you are not having outbreaks?

Unfortunately yes. Your chances are less if you have no actual sores but the problem is shedding. It's not easy to explain, but I have done lots of research & there is no 100% way of not transmitting. Whether you are really careful or take medication, there is nothing that will guarantee it. You will always put the other person at risk. Use as much protection as possible to limit transmission.
