I have a question about my pregnancy

I just recently contracted herpes in the middle of April, I just found out that I am pregnant and that I got pregnant the very beginning of may... I have been reading about herpes and pregnancies but I can not find an answer to my question, I want to know since I hadnt had herpes for no more than 3 weeks before getting pregnant I wanted to kno how much of a risk is my child at getting infected through the placenta because I do not feel from reading about it that my body had enough time to produce antibodies to protect my baby??? I Realy need an answer!!! I do not want my child to suffer from any of the horrible things that could happen being infected as a newborn! Therefore I need to know what to do!!

Re: I have a question about my pregnancy

Hi you should speak to your doctor about this. I know they say it is better if the mother has the virus before becoming pregnant, and then towards the end of your pregnancy they will place you on Valtrex or something else to help prevent an outbreak so that you can have a normal delivery in the case you are having an outbreak you will have a c-section so that you do not pass it onto your child. From my point of view the baby should be fine but I am not a doctor and suggest that you do ask yours.

Re: I have a question about my pregnancy

Hello,
I have read that in rare cases, a pregnant woman may transmit the infection to her baby through the placenta if she gets herpes for the first time in her first trimester. I want to say you should be ok since you had gotten pregnant after you had your "initial" outbreak. Most of the risk that I have read about really is more in the third trimester if a woman gets her first outbreak.

I wouldn't worry much over it, just get your ultrasounds to monitor babies growth I think you should be fine though , but this is definitely your OB should be able to answer.
