Herpes- No symptoms

I did not know I have HSV and only just recently found out when my now ex bf started getting an outbreak and went to get tested. I had no symptoms and we both got tested for std's before we started having sexual intercourse and both of our results came back negative. I know i passed it to him because he had only one partner before and both were virgins. I had two others b4 him, one without protection (he put it in without my consent).

My concern now is after he told me, I went to the walk-in clinic and requested blood work to be done for HSV, but the doctor said if there's no outbreak ie: lesions, sores, itchiness ect ect then there is no such thing as blood test, just swabbing the area, but no outbreaks then they can't do anything...blood test for std's are only for chlamydia or gonorrhea ect ect not to detect heroes. I said I want to find out because I had recently had protected sex with another person but performed oral sex on each other so I need to know if I passed it on to him. He basically said no symptoms nothing can be tested....

I'm going to get a second opinion but right now I just need to know how likely did I pass this to the person I was recently with....how long would it take for them to start feeling the symptoms...

Thanks

Re: Herpes- No symptoms

Hi,
Are you sure you both were tested for herpes prior as it is not a routine test. The doctor that you had went to unfortunately does not know what they are talking about. You can request that an IgG herpes type specific blood test be done. If you have the virus it will be detected. It can however take up to 4 months for the antibodies to be detected in the blood test.
