| New Here, sharing my experience with herpes and questions.
I have had symptoms for well over a year, and for a long time my doctor would look and say hmmmm I'm not sure what that is, it could be a yeast infection. I was in so much pain and put on antibiotics for uti's and sent to see a specialist. (Urologist) One day when my doctor was away, his colleague did some swabs and asked if I'd ever had herpes. I was so offended, no way was that possible. This was in September of 2011. Last spring in April of 2012 I had a painful bad outbreak of blisters on my right butt cheek, right in the middle. I was told I had either shingles or herpes when I'd gone to the hospital, had swabs done, and when I followed up with my doctor, he said it was shingles. I never received results for any herpes swabs I had done.
Last month I went back to the urologist, same symptoms of painful urination, raw skin, etc. When I had seen him previously, he had done a cystoscopy and also stretched my urethra and said I had stenosis. He noted my very raw vaginal skin. So when I went back to see him as he flipped through my file he casually mentioned my herpes type 2 and I covered my face in my hands literally. It all finally made sense. The symptoms, the pain, the blisters in my MOUTH even.
So now that I can tell when my outbreaks are it is a lot different. Some of my symptoms are abdominal pain, sore tingly skin, trouble going pee, and painful urination. Yesterday the spot on my butt was SO sore, but I saw nothing at all. This morning I looked in the mirror and sure enough, angry red spot. I'm not taking antivirals, but have some and the topical ones as well. (I hate pills)
So that's a bit of my story and I just wanted to share. I never did get results from the herpes/shingles swab and my doctor apologized to me profusely for not having the results from last September. You'd think this is important stuff to let a patient know.
My question s are what others do during outbreaks. Medication? Supplements? Rest extra? My son asked what is wrong and I lied and said I have a virus, that it is shingles because you can get it many times. I feel bad, but why am I getting it in 2 spots at the same time?
Thanks in advance.
