Herpes from stored wax.

I used an at home bikini wax that had been used a few months ago by a roommate. I used new sticks and never thought about herpes living or being preserved in the wax. Shortly after waxing, about a week later I had an outbreak. I have been diagnosed by culture as hsv2. Is it possible the wax preserved the virus for the months it was not in use, or did I have this all along and the trauma from waxing triggered outbreak. The outbreak was in the exact location where my first attempt at waxing was successful.
