Partner has HSV1 & I have HSV2 - How likely to transfer one to the other?

Hello,

My partner has HSV1 and has been getting coldsores off and on since a young child. I have recently been diagnosed with HSV2 which has been appearing on my buttocks. My first question is this: If my partner has HSV1 does he have a higher or lower likelihood of catching my HSV2? Does him having HSV1 make him somewhat immune to my virus?

My partner is on the fence about staying with me. I have directed him to websites and message such as this one, etc. and I have another doctor appointment later this week for a prescription of Valtrex (or something like). My second question is this: Is there anything that I can do or help put his mind at ease? Does anyone have any recommendations or examples of their experiences in a similar situation?

Any help or information is much appreciated.
Thank You!
