swollen lips and breaking out

This is my second post on here. I want to say Hello everyone!
first of all. I am 42 and I have had Herpes down below for 15 years, but rarely have outbreaks... maybe 2 times a year.

now this is my problem...One night I shaved my face like always. im not hairy so I just use water like I have been doing for years. a couple of days later, I see a few pimples around my mouth but NOT on my lips or IN my mouth. Next day I have a few more. some are white heads and the others are red it they feel hard under the skin. this morning I notice the right side of my bottom lip is swollen now. It could have been swollen since the beginning, but I didnt notice.
when I squeeze my lip where it's swollen, it hurts and feels sore..

Im thinking herpes, or something I ate that caused an allergic reaction?

Re: swollen lips and breaking out

Oral herpes is incredibly common, and you may well be having an outbreak. Have you ever had a cold sore on your lip? If not, this could be an initial outbreak which would explain the severity. Alternatively, you may have just had a vaccine wear off. If you have been previously vaccinated for anything in the herpes family, such as Chickenpox, and the vaccine has worn off, you can get a particularly nasty outbreak.

I assume you already have meds for your genital herpes- the same meds work for oral herpes. You can also use lip balm containing Lysine, and you can take Lysine pills. Avoid foods with Arginine and avoid chocolate for now.

If you're unsure, it would be good to see a doctor.

Edit: the reason I say if you're unsure, see a doc is because other things can resemble this. My dad had what appeared to be a pimple right at the corner of his mouth and it turned out to be the drain hole for a staph infection. You did mention this occurred after shaving, there is always the possibility you cut yourself and introduced some sort of infection.
