What is the Right LDL Goal??

Hello Everyone,

I am a 61 year old female and very confused as to how low is low enough with ldl goal.

Here are my numbers:
TC 227
LDL 120
Trigs 67
HDL 93 (yup 93).
Fasting Glucose 85
Blood Pressure 124/76

I take 40mg of Simvastatin but my doctor wants my ldl below 100 and has prescribed 20mg of Crestor. I love my doctor but I'm having trouble understanding just what it is she is trying to fix.

I feel an ldl <130 should be enough.

PS - I have had high cholesterol my entire life (discovered in my 20's). I had an angiogram when I was 54 which was negative.

Any thoughts?

Ridiculous, IMO, to push for 100 LDL. Your numbers are great. Another case of an overly conservative doc who might not even be considering (or knowledgeable of) the all-important ratios.

Re: What is the Right LDL Goal??

Thanks Tess and Movielover for your replies.

I spoke to my doctor and honestly told her how I felt. She agreed my numbers are great and that I could just stay with the Simvastatin 40mg. but said she offered me Crestor because she has found that patients have fewer side effects with Crestor. I found that a little hard to believe. The only way I feel you can avoid the side effects of statins is to not take them! There is a lot I can still do with lifestyle changes. I'm not giving up.

Thanks again!

Good for you! You can also go alternative and nix the meds. Many of us have with great results. Check other posts here for the protocol, if interested.

Best,

Tess
