fish oil & flaxseed oil capsules - High Cholesterol Message Board

Along with my diet changes my doctor has suggested I take 1 flax seed oil, 1 fish oil and 1 garlique capsule with every meal to help my numbers. I am trying to avoid taking a statin!!

Has anyone found any weird side effects from taking these??
(I have recently had a reaction to 2 prescriptions so I am just a little cautious right now.)

Side-effects from flaxseed oil, fish oil, and garlic? No, I don't think so. Consider yourself lucky. You could be taking a statin. Well, then you would really have to be concerned.

No, I've never heard of anyone getting side effects from any of those other than a few fishy tasting burps from some of the fish oil caps. I did have some that did that when I took them several years ago, but have had no problem with any of the brands I've used since I started taking them again a year or so ago.

The pharmacy told me that along with those items grape-seed extract also helps lower cholesterol. LMG

Fish oil may be a better selection as it contains more Omega 3, whereas, flaxseed oil is predominately Omega 6 which the American diet usually already has too much. Flaxseed oil is the best vegetarian source of Omega 3, though.

Beta Sitosterol is a good supplement to lower cholesterol (same active ingredient as in Total Control margarine). Policosanol is another option but I've read it is not quite as safe as beta sitosterol. Try an Internet search on these products to learn more.
