I found this in my book, "The Thyroid Sourcebook for Women" by M. Sara Rosenthal. This is what it says:
Cholestyramine. This drug is prescribed for people with high cholesterol levels. Cholestyramine lowers the absorption of thyroxine. Therefore, the two should not be taken together. A space of four to five hours between the two is recommended, with thyroxine being taken first.
I took Levothroid for a year prior to my thyroid surgery. I don't have the bottle in front of me but I remember taking it as soon as I get out of bed before I eat anything.
I am doing well since surgery and is not on thyroid medication. However, my doctor has prescribed Vytorin to take care of my high cholesterol and high triglyceride. So far, I have not experienced any side effects. I will be going for blood work this Saturday (2 months' check up). I am hopeful for good results. Just one less health issue to deal with.
Do talk to your doctor or pharmacist about interactions. It's simple if we are taking only one drug but when we are taking 2 or more drugs and/or herbs, that can cause serious interactions. Since I have been on medication, I make sure I talk to my doctor or pharmicist before I take even counter drugs. Here's a website that you can check on different drug(s) interactions:
