Lipitor/time

Does anyone know how long it takes for muscle pain to go away after stopping Lipitor?

Re: Lipitor/time

Sagg....It depends on how long U have been on it, and to what degree your pain is, everyone is different. How long were U on Lipitor and exactly what kind of pain did U get?

Alot of folks here take Co Q10, it is suppose to be very good for building up the muscles, and although very few drs. tell you, it should be taken if U are on a statin. Statins deplete your body of CoQ10, but like I said, very few drs. tell U this. I'm sure others will come on and tell U more about it, as I have never taken it. Best wishes....

Re: Lipitor/time

From what I have read it varies. I can only speak from my husband's condition. The first time he stopped taking it (he forgot to take it on vacation) the pain eased considerably within two days. When he got home his dosage was increaed and he ached all over. Unfortunately. he continued at the higher dose, 20mg, for three weeks before we put two and two together. He has been off it for a little over 3 weeks, but during that time he developed a burning in his calves, but the major pain in his hip and leg has been sharply reduced. This morning he has a slight pain in his hip and some slight burning in the knee, but nothing to compare with the pain he was experiencing. He seems to relapse a little when he attempts to do too much or exercise. He is on 400mg of Co10 enzyme and he uses a Tens electric stimulator. I keep telling him to go slow. It may be six months to a year before the pain caused by Lipitor completely goes away from all that I have read.

Re: Lipitor/time

Sagg - I can only speak for myself concerning your question about Lipitor.

I also put 2 + 2 together after experiencing pains/aches/soreness/weakness in both legs and arms after being on Lipitor for 2 months. This also spread up to my neck and shoulders, as well as my feet!

I want to add that I'm a very active sports person - play tennis at least once a week, and either walk/run daily, and lift light weights - so this PAIN I was experiencing came totally out of left field.

Unfortunately, I had continued to take it for 2 additional months, because my doctor thought it might be a pinched nerve or some other back-related problem causing my pains (but obviously he was wrong after sending me to 2 spine doctors, and having MRI and EMG tests done, which came back negative).

I've been off the Lipitor for 5 weeks now - I can honestly say I feel 75% better - sometimes my arms will ache, or my feet - my major complaint is both of my wrists ache (almost arthritis like) - I think the Lipitor just aggravated my wrists, since I'm sure I'm starting to develop arthritis in both wrists. I'm on the computer all day at work, so it hasn't been much fun.

In addition, on the advice of my people, I started to take CoQ10 a few days ago - I'm not sure how long before it starts to have any effect on me, but I'm going to continue on it.

In summary, I was on Lipitor for 4 months total - I'm in my 5th week of NO Lipitor, and I'm DEFINITELY feeling better!

Good luck!

Mark

Re: Lipitor/time

i was on Lipitor for about2 months.(10mg). Then I had pnumonia and was in the hospital for a week where they did not give it to me. After I was home a week I started on it again. I was on it for about 4 weeks. Then I got pains in my upper arms right wrist and both knees. I read on line about Lipitor causing muscle pain, so I stopped it. It has been maybe 2 weeks now and I still have the pain. Nothing makes it stop not even acetemeniphin. I started on 100 mg of COQ10 for about 4 days now. I just hope this pain will eventually go away.
