Policosanol

All,

Bayer has introduced a new variant of it's One-A-Day vitamin. This one contains Policosanol (10mg) and is called 'One-a-Day Cholesterol Plus'.

Seems like everyone is jumping on the Policosanol band-wagon - hopefully it will prove as effective as the Cuban clinical studies have indicated.

I started taking a different brand of Policosanol a week ago and will be interested in what effect it has on my test results.

More importantly, I've cut way-down on sugar, processed foods and anything with Trans-Fats. I'm also back to my 'normal' exercise routine (jog every other day about 3 miles). The muscle pains and weakness I got from Lipitor/Tricor a 16 months ago really set my exercise routine back for over a year...

Re: Policosanol

Hi Hubble...I posted about that a few days ago, first time I ever saw that ad. A friend of mine also said she heard about this...cholox...on the radio friday, ever heard of this? I looked it up, but got a million sites on it and haven't had a chance to see what it contains.

A few years ago Policosanol was very popular, then it sort of went by the way side, but like U said, seems to be coming around for seconds. I think U mentioned it was best in sugar cane for rather than bees wax, right? God, my CRS is getting bad....

Got to run, but have a super weekend, and I still thing the ole "Beach Bum" life would do us all a world of good.....

Re: Policosanol

JJ I took Policosanol a couple of years ago, I took it for a month and had a check and my total cholesterol had gone up so I stopped and that was when I got put on Lipitor. I have to say here that I was told later that you have to be on it longer because it will show an increase the first month or so and then it will go down. Does that make sense to you? The remark to me was it was taking the cholesterol out and into the blood stream to get rid of it, but I am not so sure about that analogy. Say, being a beach bum sounds so good but living in Minnesota it ain't so easy to do.

Re: Policosanol

gardeninggal...I have never taken Policosanol, nor know anyone personally who has, so I am in the dark about it. Weird that it would make your's go up, but then again, fish oil capsules made my LDL go up????

Hubby's cardio man has tried him on a few things, as he knows what he went thru on statins, but his big thing is everything in moderation, and he also believes in QUALITY of life. Like he told us, if meds. make U so miserable U can't enjoy life, forget about it, just do the best U can. He suggested Folic Acid, but hubby broke out in hives from that, but I took the rest of the bottle with no problems. Now that is rare for me, as I usually can't handle too many things. Many years ago my old dr. of 35 yrs. told me to take a B-C complex vitamin, and I did for years, then went to a plain old multi. Think next time I need vitamins, am going to try and go back on the B/C complex, as I seemed to feel pretty good on them. Will have to read the label to see exactly what it has different then a regular multi. Oh the joys of trying this, that and whatever huh? I'm still ready to toss my hands in the air and say...I QUIT!!

Have a great day, and BTW, a good friend of mine lives in MN., and I swear, U guys had a better winter then we did here in CT....

U and the family have a wonderful day, bring in some beach sand for your yard and pretend to be a "Beach Bum"......

Sorry - I have to read more carefully... This week has been a real killer at work - I must be cracking under the pressure..

The 'Beach Bum Train' may be leaving soon!!! (Did you rent 'Ronin' with De Niro yet???).
