Lipid Profile Questions - High Cholesterol Message Board

My doctors results show my basic cholesterol numbers such as TC, HDL, LDL, Triglycerides but I notice other people are getting other information such as VLDL, LDL-C (?)

Should I inquire with my doctor to run a different test to get the other numbers or is TC, HDL, LDL and Triglycerides sufficient?

Your VLDL is easy to calculate. Just divide your Trigs. by 5. I think the goal for VLDL, very low-density lipoprotein is 0-30. As far as the LDL-C, this is the definition I got on the web: Low Density Lipoprotein Cholesterol, so I believe the tests U are getting are the proper ones. If there is any other definitions for these, I am sure someone with more knowledge then myself will be more then glad to tell you.

My Lipid profile reads as follows:
LDL - 75
HDL - 62
TC- 110
Trig - 102

How is this computed? I thought it is stated LDL+HDL+Trig/5 which should be 157 in my case. Why do they tell it is 110?

Brian,

There's a screw-up in your numbers and I'm guessing it's with the TC of 110 which is almost impossibly low...although not COMPLETELY impossible.
I think your TC should have been reported as 157...which is ALSO a spectacular profile and more in the realm of plausibility.

Watch out for runaway buses and carcinogens because with these numbers you'll certainly NEVER die of heart disease.

Do you get these numbers WITHOUT drugs?

Get a retest though because if the test was done by someone who can't count, maybe other mistakes were made.

Well, unless that person already has heart disease. Anyway, the LDL and TC are unusually low, which is typical for someone who is already taking statins.
