| Pfizer Sued for Over-Marketing Lipitor
An AP news item on this topic came out on September 28, but I just came across it now. It doesn't appear to have been discussed on this board before. In general, this is a class action suit by two consumer groups which allege that Pfizer marketed Lipitor to reduce cholesterol in patient groups not covered in the clinical trials, namely women and people over age 65 who did not have heart disease or diabetes. Pfizer indicates that they have FDA approval to market Lipitor to such groups if they have other risks.
I can't link to the actual article, but you might want to look it up for more details.
There was reference in the article to a study of 2000 women which concluded that those taking Lipitor developed 10 percent more heart attacks than those taking a placebo. Does anyone know to what study that might refer?
