| Re: What Triglyceride level is considered high
Generally, anything starting at 150. But it really depends on the laboratory that's involved in determining your levels - use their "reference range" to determine what's normal for you and what's not.
Typically,
50 - 149 = normal
150 - 199 = borderline high
200 - 499 = high
>= 500 = very high
I think the reason why your doctor is concerned about you being diabetic is because of the correlation between insulin resistance and high triglyceride levels. I have high triglycerides (>300) whenever my diet consists of lots of sweets. Whenever I back off the sweets, the triglycerides drop dramatically (<150). And it's not only sweets, but any high-carb foods (white breads, rice and pasta, potatoes, etc.).
Certain people, like me, are sensitive to high-carb diets. Try laying off the high-carb foods to determine if that makes a difference in your numbers.
Also, my triglycerides correlate directly to my HDL levels: the higher my trigs., the lower my HDL; the lower my trigs., the higher my HDL respectively.
