Lightbulb Hmmm, found this interesting....

Was doing a lil research on Tricor and within the articles I found this:

Tricor is usually added to a treatment regimen only when other measures have failed to produce adequate results. Often, diet and exercise are enough to bring blood fats under control. Likewise, it's sometimes sufficient to simply treat an underlying problem such as diabetes, underactive thyroid, kidney disease, liver dysfunction, or alcoholism. And in some cases, just discontinuing a medication is enough to do the job. For instance, certain water pills and "beta-blocker" heart medications are capable of causing a massive increase in triglyceride levels. Estrogen replacement therapy is another potential culprit.

**************************************** **********
I have been crabbing about hubby being on 100 mgs. of Atenolol, a Beta Blocker, as not only has his sugar gone up some, his Trigs. went even higher then usual. For years he was in the 250-300 range, but since the Atenolol has been added and upped, he is running in the 450-475 range. Last month it came down to the 300 range, and I just found out he stopped the 100 mgs. and knocked himself down to 50 mgs. After reading this, I think it is definitely time for him to be knocked down more on it, as it could be the culprit. Gee, some of the things U find by accident huh?

JJ,

The more and more I think about it I think what one old doc told me was right. He said that for a younger man Beta blockers are a good thing. For someone older, probably 60+ they are not a good idea because in those age groups the heart needs to be strong. I know I mentioned it earlier but I have really adapted to it.

Of course your hubby may actually be on it for another reason and NEED it but I sure would question it.

You ought to see my 85 year old father-in-law...he takes it at 50Mg., his BP is like 80-90/50-60 and he just hobbles around. I try to explain this to his family and get no response. Mentally he suffers too.

Yes, U did mention it, so forgive me for not remembering, guess my mind is on the way out this past week...... Hubby is on 2 other BP meds and they seemed to keep it pretty much in check, but his new dr. is a lil bit of a numbers freak, so added it and then upped it. Even then I was a bit miffed but just kept my mouth shut, VERY unusual for me, but after seeing this I am questioning it. Just called hubby at the hospital to tell him what I found so he can ask the drs. Good grief, the man has so much going on right now, I don't want to overload him either, but he is starting to question some of these meds. Like they say, too much is as bad as too little. Oh well, after things are settled down he said he is going to have a good long talk with the cardio guy about his reg. meds., think it is time for a change in some of them.

Yes, he is 68, and with all the other stuff he takes, they do seem to slow him down, plus being a type 2 diabetic with a history of high Trigs. I don't think we need a med that aggravates the situation. Maybe I missed my calling and should have been a dr.???? LOL Nah, I see needles and I want to run, so I guess I didn't miss anything. Oh well, just taking things one day at a time right now, but sooner or later we will get things squared away. For now we just need him well and home.

Enjoy your eveing, think I will have a ME nite and relax........
