Numbers went down

The doctor called last evening with the lastest blood test results:

TC 209 (May '06 227)
Tri 74 (don't know for May)
HDL 77 (May '06 63)
LDL 117 (May '06 138)

He wants another blood test in 6 weeks and I'm not sure I'm going to do it. My only risk factors are a grandmother and uncle who had heart attacks in their 60's but both were diabetic as well and didn't take care of themselves.

I'm eating oatmeal with cinnamon every day and watching trans fats, saturated fats, etc., and exercising daily.

Thanks for any input.

Re: Numbers went down

Is your doctor wanting you to take statins with those kind of numbers? They look extremely good to me.

Re: Numbers went down

If U did that without any meds. U did a fine job. Give yourself a big pat on the back, looks mighty good to me. Your dr. sounds like mine, she was testing me every 2 months till I told her forget it. She knows I can't take cholesterol meds as I get sick from them, and I can't afford to be going for tests so often, so she backed off.

Best wishes and good luck........

Re: Numbers went down

My guess is that my doctor will want to put me on statins. He said if in 6 weeks the numbers stay the same "we'll talk about what we should do." He's prone to prescribe medications so I may not go for another test. I don't want to be on any of the statins and I don't think 209 is that bad. Guess the oatmeal and being careful has helped.

Re: Numbers went down

I'm no dr. but unless U have some kind of severe risk factors, those numbers should definitely NOT require meds. I have been eating the oatmeal, and also take a 1/2tsp. of cinnamon each morning, and I drink green tea. So far my numbers came down alot, but my dr. is a numbers freak, so if I am even above by 5 pts. she wants me on meds., but I told her no and explained the bad history I had with statins and even other cholesterol meds., so she has backed off.

Hubby had fairly high numbers, but I had him start on the oatmeal and cinnamon and his numbers dropped quite abit, so his dr. is a happy camper. He was on meds. for years, then he started having nasty side effects so he stopped. Even his cardio man told us, if the meds. ruin the quality of your life, U shouldn't be on them. Some people on this site would love to have your numbers, so I have no idea what your drs. problem is.

Have a good one, and best wishes.....
