Statin Charley Horse? - High Cholesterol Message Board

Well, I've been on Lipitor about 3-4 months now. My cholesterol numbers have been phenomenal but the liver enzymes ticked up a bit. So, they're taking blood every couple of months. I have another next week, and I don't want to keep playing with my liver. Anyway, that's another story . . .

I've never experienced this joint/muscle "pain" that seems common among many statin users. However, last night I had the worst charley horse in my life. This was like someone shooting me directly in the middle of my calf. I rocketed out of bed in pain and it took some time to flex. I have never had one like this before. It's now the next evening now and I've been hobbling all day. It's still extremely sore.

Coincidence? Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated!

Yes, coincidence.
Charlie invented his horse long before the first statin.
I doubt there is a person alive who has not had a charlie-horse.

You can't be certain that this charley horse just happened. It could be a warning that you body is being damaged.

My husband had middle of the night muscle spasms in his leg muscles on a regular basis when he was on Lipitor. It would wake me up when he jumped out of bed to stretch out his legs. He has not had them since he stopped Lipitor more than a year ago. It could be a coincidence.
