| Re: pravachol or crestor
stella,
Your numbers are very good on the pravachol. There is NO conceivable reason to switch to the MUCH stronger statin unless your doctor is on the board of Astra-Zeneca. The Crestor is more likely to cause side effects that might make your continued statin use problemmatic.
Those calcium scores are fraught with false results and really shouldn't be used diagnostically. Ignore that reading. The thallium stress test trumps it every day of the week.
ASK you doctor why SPECIFICALLY he wants to make the switch and if he says something like "Crestor is better" or "Nobody is using pravachol anymore," repeat the word SPECIFICALLY! Tell him that tired generalizations aren't good enough.
He might say "We like to see an LDL below 70." Tell him that 75 is close enough especially with good HDL levels.
Messing with 6 years of very successful pravachol use is bad medical practive shading into MALpractice.
With a terrible family history any indications that your readings are "too low" is preposterous.
