Zocor almost made me CRAZY...Dizzy & Off Balance! - High Cholesterol Message Board

Was on Zocor for four months. Was looking for side effects of muscle weakness or pain, which I never experienced. However, I became extremely dizzy and off balance. Couldn't walk around in stores without holding on, the floor didn't seem to connect with my brain at times. Was sleeping 10-12 hours a night.

Symptoms didn't start until I was on the Zocor for a month or so and I assumed it was from something else. After seeing a neurologist and having an mri, my internist suggested that it could be the Zocor and advised me to stop. Within a week, I felt like myself. I'm usually very savvy about drug interactions and side effects, but this one was completely unexpected.

Anyone else experience this? Now I have to go back to the internist and figure out what I can take...kind of scared to try something new!

I'm having the same exact problem with zetia. And none of my Dr's said that's what it could be even though it says MAY CAUSE DIZZINESS right on the bottle. I find myself walking to the right alot, instead of straight.

As with my mother...I might suspect the problem is in you cerebellum (lower part of the brain). The cerebellum depends on cholesterol and CoQ10... two substances that doctors and medical companies have ignored the lowering or lack of and the problems they can cause.

Thanks for the responses. VERY interesting!!! With regard to the cerebellum and cholesterol - any idea if this would have shown up in the MRI? I would assume not.

Don't let the doc put you on Lipitor. My husband had the same symptoms and it was because the Lipitor was breaking down his muscles. He's been off of it about 4 months now and occasionally still feels the effect of it. It did horrible things to him.
