I'm surprised that no one has posted about the recent research on air pollution and its effect of CAD. They have found that air pollution does play a major role in CAD in women (as this trial/test was only on women). As air pollution causes free radicals in the body, it is all the more reason for anti-oxidents. I still think that cholesterol is not the culprit in heart disease. The information on air pollution is even more cause to use COq10. Again some of this information is explained in the patent of Zocor with COq10. Its funny how Merck has known some of this information, and even published it, but still fails to do anything about it, and at the same time stops anyone else (statin makers) from using Coq10 in their formulations.

Yes, I saw that info...just read a news article; haven't followed up yet with the complete study. Luckily, I've lived for more than 5 years in one of the cleanest spots in the nation, BUT can now chalk my 25+ years in one of the dirtiest to another of the possible multiple factors that led to my having CAD.

I think the "causes" are clearly multiple and vary from person to person. Certainly cholesterol isn't the only one (and I believe low HDL and high triglycerides are a more dangerous culprit than total or LDL).

Connie, I agree. I also don't think people realize that HDL transports EXCESS cholesterol back to the liver. If you lower you LDL too much, there will not be any excess cholesterol to transport back to the liver. People don't realize how vital cholesterol is to the cells.
